Developmental Guidance Workshops
In order to enhance the Salem High School Guidance Program, a series of developmental guidance workshops for all students will be presented to students throughout their years at Salem High School. These workshops will take place in a classroom atmosphere; the time will have to be "borrowed" from class time in required subject areas in order to facilitate the delivery of information to the maximum number of students in the minimum amount of time.
The focus of each year's work will be thematically based as follows:

Adjustment to School, Change and Personal Growth.
Exploration and Options
Planning for the Future - The Next Step
Putting Plans into Motion.

Individual Counseling Sessions
In addition to these developmental, thematic presentations of group guidance information, all students will meet with their counselor on a yearly basis at least once. During this meeting the student and counselor will work on areas of common concern. These meetings are designed for the student to be able to realize where s/he is having problems and to afford the student the opportunity to examine a solution to these problems with his/her own counselor.
Additionally, students and parents should know that the Guidance Staff is pleased to be able to help all of our students as soon as we can. With classroom presentation commitments, workshop presentations, scheduled meetings and emergencies, we will be very busy people. We encourage all parents and students who wish to see their counselor to call and leave word on the voice mail if the counselor isn't in to answer a call. We all would appreciate it very much if parents would call for an appointment rather than presenting oneself at the guidance office unannounced.
